In the midst of an important election cycle, Dorchester District Two's communications department has caused confusion for local voters by distributing inaccurate information about the school board districts and the candidates running in each district.
This morning, DD2's communication department sent out erroneous updates via text, email, social media, and Parent Square, which has left many voters unclear about their correct voting district ahead of the November 5th nonpartisan school board election.
This graphic below which is incorrect was shared to thousands of parents this morning:
Adding to the confusion, a candidate's name was misspelled on the communication from what is to appear on the ballot, further complicating the voting process. Unfortunately, the school district’s social media posts do not allow comments or provide a way for concerned individuals to report these errors. They also do not accept private messages, making it challenging for residents to alert the district to the issues. The school district has yet to issue a correction.
One of the primary concerns relates to the boundaries of DD2's school districts. Many voters have found it difficult to determine their correct district, as the school board district lines differ from those of county council representatives. To find accurate information about which school board district they reside in, voters are encouraged to check their voter registration details using this link: SC Voter Registration Lookup.
Once you determine your district, you can verify the candidates running in your area. The current list of candidates includes both incumbents and newcomers.
School Board Candidates by District:
District 1: Justin Farnsworth (Incumbent), Sabrina Ferguson Edwards (rumored to have dropped out), Eric Unger
District 2: Bethanny King (Unopposed)

District 4: Evan Guthrie (Incumbent, Unopposed)
District 5: Cynthia Powell (Incumbent), Glenn A. Zingarino
