Dorchester County Announces Government Closures Due to Hurricane Debby

In anticipation of the historic catastrophic flooding predicted from Hurricane Debby, Dorchester County has announced several key closures to ensure the safety of its residents and employees. The following closures will take effect this week:


Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Courts

  • All Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Courts will be closed from Tuesday, August 6, 2024, through Thursday, August 8, 2024. The County aims to reopen on Friday, August 9, 2024, pending further assessment.

Dorchester County Convenience Sites

  • All Dorchester County Convenience Sites will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, and will remain closed through Thursday, August 8, 2024. Provided site conditions are safe, the Convenience Sites will reopen on Friday, August 9, following their regular schedules. For more information on Convenience Sites, please click here.

Dorchester County Parks

  • All Dorchester County Parks will also close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, and stay closed through Thursday, August 8, 2024. The parks plan to reopen on Friday, August 9, 2024, after safety assessments confirm they are suitable for public use. Additional updates can be found on Dorchester County Parks' social media channels.

Dorchester County Public Libraries

  • All Dorchester County Public Libraries will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, and will stay closed through Thursday, August 8, 2024. Libraries are scheduled to reopen on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Important Note: Dorchester County Damage Assessment Teams are scheduled to begin field assessments on Thursday, August 8. A final decision on the reopening of County Government offices will be made based on these assessments. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
