Dorchester School District Two (DDTwo) has released its 2024 testing highlights, revealing a continued upward trend in student performance in both English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins praised the district's progress while acknowledging the ongoing work needed to further improve educational outcomes.
"While our test scores remain above state averages, we understand we still have a lot of work to do," said Dr. Robbins. "In the 2024-2025 school year, our focus in English Language Arts will center around best practices in literacy instruction through the science of reading and professional development for teachers, inclusive of LETRS training. In mathematics, we are focusing on improving problem-solving skills and utilizing small group differentiation as we align our instruction to the state’s new math standards."
2024 SC Ready ELA Highlights:
DDTwo's ELA “Meets and Exceeds Expectation” percentages surpass state averages across all grade levels.
The district’s ELA scores have outperformed pre-pandemic levels at every grade.
2024 SC Ready Math Highlights:
Math “Meets and Exceeds Expectation” percentages exceed state averages for grades three through six.
Over the past four years, the percentage of students scoring “Not Meets” has decreased, while those scoring “Exceeds” have increased, reflecting significant academic growth.
2024 End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) Highlights:
DDTwo’s average performance on all four End-of-Course Exams surpassed state averages.
The district’s average score in Algebra 1 increased for the second consecutive year.
DDTwo reached the state’s 75% proficiency goal for student achievement on the English 2 EOCEP.
2024 SC Career Readiness Assessment Highlights:
74.9% of DDTwo students received a Career Readiness Credential, with 40% earning the two highest levels of achievement.
Thad Schmenk, Director of Assessment and Accountability, highlighted the district's success in reversing the negative impact of COVID-19 on math performance. "In 2021, our average student scale score in math on the SC Ready Assessment fell to 512. Over the past four years, we have been able to raise this score each year, culminating in an average scale score of 532—a substantial gain. Our performance on the Algebra 1 EOCEP has also echoed this upward trend."
As DDTwo continues to build on these achievements, the district remains committed to furthering educational excellence through targeted instructional strategies and professional development.
