Summerville, SC – If you’re looking for a warm meal and a chance to connect with your neighbors, head over to 320 N. Laurel St. in Downtown Summerville this evening. From 5:00 to 6:00 PM, Expanding the Table will be serving a complimentary dinner of pasta and meatballs to all who attend.
This community dinner is part of Expanding the Table’s ongoing mission to provide free, hot meals to those in need across Summerville. What began as a project of Ashley Ridge Church in 2014 has grown into a vital resource for the community, serving over 100,000 meals to date. The organization started with a simple goal: to fill in the gaps where food services were lacking, ensuring that no one in the Summerville area would go hungry.
The team behind Expanding the Table operates from a mobile kitchen—a repurposed coffee truck turned food truck—serving approximately 200 meals each week on Fridays and Saturdays. Beyond just providing food, the volunteers work to build relationships with the people they serve, offering not only nourishment but also a sense of community and connection.
In October 2021, Expanding the Table became its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, further solidifying its commitment to the Summerville community. The truck now travels to different locations, not just to serve food but also to offer resources and support. With a network of over 50 local human services organizations, Expanding the Table helps connect individuals with food, shelter, medical care, social services, and even job placement.
Tonight’s dinner is just one example of how Expanding the Table is making a difference in Summerville. So, if you’re in the area, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and learn more about this incredible organization.
