Dorchester County, S.C. - Fort Dorchester High School in Charleston, South Carolina has announced that Basketball Hall of Famer Katrina McClain will be the new head coach for the Patriots girls basketball program. The Lowcountry legend, who is among the most decorated athletes that the Charleston area has ever produced, is set to bring her wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
McClain's impressive resume includes two Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal, the 1987 National Player of the Year award while playing for the University of Georgia, and being a two-time All-American while playing for the Bulldogs. Her accomplishments in the sport of basketball led to her induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.
After completing her college career, McClain played professionally for seven years in Japan, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. She was a dominant force on the court, leading her teams to multiple championships and earning numerous accolades along the way.
Although McClain achieved great success at the college and professional level, she began her basketball journey at St. Andrews High School in Charleston. In her senior year, she led the team to a perfect 30-0 record and a state championship.
Now, as the new head coach of Fort Dorchester's girls basketball program, McClain is eager to pass on her knowledge and help guide the team to success on and off the court. The Fort Dorchester Patriots have a talented group of players, and McClain's leadership will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the team as they strive to reach new heights.
