On Tuesday evening, South Carolina State representative Mandy Kimmons resigned her seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Kimmons released a statement through her Facebook page.
“ After prayerful consideration, I hereby resign from the South Carolina House of Representatives effective immediately. “
In the statement, Kimmons referred to her desire to practice law and continuously serve her local community.
The sudden resignation drew surprise from most of her colleagues
Kimmons, a former prosecutor elected back in 2018, served district 97 and was highly praised throughout the GOP and even across the aisle.
A special election will be held to fill her position.
Robby Robbins has announced that he intends to run for the open position.
