Summerville, SC – August 12, 2024: In the wake of recent flooding in the Ashborough area, Erica Stanton Skipper, a resident of Summerville, has stepped up to organize a relief effort to assist those affected by the disaster. Skipper is calling on the local community to donate or lend essential items needed for cleanup operations.
The flooding has left many residents in need of supplies to restore their homes. Skipper, who previously coordinated similar efforts in 2015, is once again rallying the community to help their neighbors in need. She has shared a list of items that would be greatly appreciated, including:
Bleach
Heavy-duty rubber gloves
Large construction-size garbage bags
Box fans (including commercial-size industrial fans)
Dehumidifiers (with labels for return to the owner)
Squeegees for garage cleanup
Knives/blades for drywall removal
Skipper emphasizes the importance of labeling loaned items with the owner’s address, phone number, and name to ensure they can be returned after use. Donations and loaned items can be dropped off at her home at 109 Fort St., which will serve as the central distribution point for Ashborough residents to pick up the supplies they need.
“This community showed up in a big way in 2015, and I know we can do it again,” said Skipper. “Every little bit helps, and together we can make a big difference in helping our neighbors get back on their feet.”
Residents willing to contribute can text Skipper at 843-697-4333 to coordinate drop-offs. She encourages those who are able to share her message to help spread the word and maximize the impact of this community effort.
This grassroots initiative underscores the strength and unity of the Summerville community in times of crisis. As Ashborough residents work to recover from the flooding, the support from fellow Summerville locals will be crucial in helping them rebuild and move forward.
